Katie Lannaman is the creator of our program. She's a Montessori-certified teacher for infants and toddlers, as well as a registered ECE teacher.

She is an unbelievable educator, incredibly patient and tender with the children. She's also a teacher of the teachers at Montessori Teachers College!

Katie ran an online program for her students (including my son) last spring when all the schools shut down and I cannot say enough good things about her and the program.

A Message From Katie

"I'm thrilled to be bringing Montessori to so many families in this new and exciting way!

Dr. Montessori dedicated her life to studying the "whole child", from their developmental needs to their unique interests, and created an educational methodology that has been practiced for over 100 years.  I truly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to have their potential recognized and to develop a love of learning.  I've seen firsthand, working in a Montessori Pre-Casa/Toddler Classroom for the last 7 years, how this approach allows children to thrive.  I look forward to being on this journey with you!

I am confident that families will love this program.  I just wish I could see the joy on parents and their children's faces as they master each skill!  When working in a classroom, my 3 favourite words to hear exclaimed are, "I did it!"  There is nothing quite like a child celebrating that they have done something for themselves and by themselves for the first time.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do."

WHO WE ARE

COPYRIGHT 2020 THE MONTESSORI ROOM. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Why Join Our Program?

Our amazing Montessori-Certified teacher, Katie Lannaman, has taken her experience from the classroom and distilled it down to just what you need to get all the benefits of Montessori...

...WITHOUT hours of researching and prepping or the high costs associated with most Montessori programs.

We've made it simple enough for anyone interested in Montessori to be able to do, even if you're working from home or have no background in education.

The lessons are all easy to access via email and quick to setup so you can give your child the best possible start, no matter what your situation.

You can join the program now and start as early as the following Monday.

If you sign up this week, we're offering discounted pricing for anyone that's signs up now.

It's a brand new program and we know they'll be a bit of a learning curve, as we're just starting out, so it's our way of saying "thanks for your patience!"

Also note that even though the monthly cost will go up, if you sign up now, your monthly cost will NEVER go up. You are grandfathered in at this price (if you stay in the program).

Plus, there's ZERO COMMMITMENT TO STAY IN THE PROGRAM. You can stay join us for a month or all 3 years! It's totally up to you. You can cancel online at any point.

We also offer a money back guarantee for the first month. If you join and you’re not happy (after the first month), just send us an email and we’ll give you your money back. No questions asked and no hard feelings.

Every week we'll email you 2 or 3 new Montessori activities, or 'pieces of work', as it's referred to in Montessori schools, including all the printouts and flashcards you might need for the lesson.

The infant programs will only have 2 activities/week, to avoid overwhelming young children, while the 18 months - 36 months toddler program will have 3.

They won't be emailed all at once, but rather Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

You don't have to do it that day or even that week. Our only suggestion is that do you them in order, as the program is laid out based on the actual Montessori curriculum for infants and toddlers.

All our activities are designed for the exact age of your infant or toddler, with a specific set of activities for each month, from 3 months to 36 months.

Monthly Montessori Practical Life Guide

We'll also be providing a monthly guide on ways to incorporate Montessori into your family's daily life, without any prep or planning.

Katie will provide a brief overview of different age-appropriate practical life skills your child can begin working on around the home, including cleaning, food prep, getting dressed, as well as info on how to begin introducing them.

This will be similar to other milestone guides you've seen but Montessori specific. Some activities can start much younger than you think! Many will begin under 1 years old.

HOW IT WORKS

A list of all the materials needed will be sent out a week in advance so you can get organized for your next shopping trip, although most materials are things you likely already have around your house, like clothes pins, dish soap, tongs, bowls, etc.

We'll also send all the digital files you'll need, including flashcards or printouts.

Most of Montessori early lessons are focused on practical life, cleaning, fine and gross motor skills, etc. There's no need for fancy materials!

MATERIALS NEEDED

WHAT YOU'LL GET

You'll get all the digital materials you'll need, along with a set of written instructions and a video that you can watch alongside your child, showing our wonderful Montessori-certified teacher, Katie, demonstrating the new activity.

I can't emphasize enough how great Katie is on video and how wonderful she is a communicating with little ones!

Each activity will also include additional information for you, including:

- the purpose of the activity

- how to introduce it to your child

- what to do if they're not following the activity exactly (remember, Montessori is child-led so we understand that this happens all the time!)

- variations once they've mastered that piece of work

A big part of the Montessori curriculum is repetition. Maria Montessori and other child development researchers found that repetition helped create and cement neural pathways in a child's brain.

Children are also easily overwhelmed. They don't need constant stimulation but rather simple activities and repetition to build their focus and concentration.

Alongside the activities will be ideas on how to incorporate Montessori into your everyday life, so you get more of the benefits without any extra work.

WHY ONLY 3 ACTIVITIES/WEEK?

Before I introduce the wonderful teacher of our program, let me introduce myself. My name is Laura and I'm the owner of The Montessori Room. I'm a huge Montessori advocate and truly believe a Montessori-based approach is the such a great way to raise children.

I helped Katie put together this program because I love teaching my son with the Montessori approach but sometimes I'm so exhausted at the end of the day, I don't have the energy to research and plan this stuff each night.

Katie's approach makes it so easy for anyone to do Montessori at home, even if you're working full time.

MEET THE TEACHER

TODDLER PROGRAM (18 Months - 3 Years)

Monday - Tong Transfer

Tong transfer is a great way to build hand strength, develop fine motor skills, and build coordination, as well as develop focus and concentration through repetition.

Wednesday - Stereognostic Bag

This activity is meant to develop the stereognostic sense (identifying an object using the sense of touch only) while enriching vocabulary.

For this work, we'll use a cloth bag or box with a hole for your child's hands, allowing them to touch and manipulate objects without being able to see them.

Friday - Sensory Bin Puzzles

Here Katie will show you how to make a simple sensory bin. This activity is great to develop visual discrimination, hand-eye coordination, and refinement of the child's pincer grip.

We'll also add in your child's favourite puzzle to bin!

INFANT PROGRAM (3-12 Months)

Monday - Exploration Basket

You'll create a basket including common items from around the home that the child is familiar with, i.e. small hair brush (nail brushes are great for little hands), ball, spoon, etc. . This activitiy is wondeful to develop hand-eye coordination, and explore familiar items around the home with all of their senses.

Wednesday - Hanging scarves

We'll explore different uses for scarfs, hanging them from a play gym and other areas around the home for the child to visually track, bat at, or reach for.

The program is structured to follow the actual Montessori curriculum for infants and toddlers. It will not run indefinitely but instead will begin at 3 months and end when the child turns 3, although you can join at any time.

If you buy the program for your 2 year old and stay with it until they complete the program at age 3, you can re-use that content for any younger children. You won't have to re-purchase when a younger child is the right age.

That being said, if you enrol more than one child at the same time (different ages), we're offering 50% off the monthly price for a second child. Go here to sign up with two children > https://info.themontessoriroom.com/sign-up-2-children/

I have multiple children. Do I have to buy the program for each child?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The program is significantly cheaper than most at-home Montessori programs because, rather than creating a full-day or more intensive program, we've created a simpler version.

Our Montessori-certified teacher, Katie has distilled the infant and toddler Montessori curriculum down to focus on just the most important parts. Your child still gets all the benefits of a Montessori program without spending 40+ hours/week and $500+/month.

Dr. Maria Montessori developed her educational approach while working in a home for children with physical and mental disabilities. She had very little time or resources for each child, yet this group was still thriving.

She saw the progress that these children had with the her approach and her dream was to bring this educational model to all children. Our goal is in keeping with Dr. Montessori's dream and simple but effective methodology.

Why is the program so inexpensive?

Not hard at all! If you can use email, you can join. All the lessons will be emailed out and you can access the video and written instructions right in your inbox. There's no other software to learn.

I'm not very tech savvy, how hard is this going to be for me?

No! You can join from anywhere in the world and carry out the activities whenever you want. Our only suggestion is that do you them in order, as the program is laid out based on the actual Montessori curriculum for infants and toddlers.

Does it matter if I live in a different timezone?

You will get all digital materials, like flashcards and printouts. We have discussed the option to offer physical materials packages but we are not offering that at this time due to time and shipping costs. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make this happen so I'll let you know if that changes. However the program has been designed to use mainly materials you likely already have around the house or can easily get.  Most of Montessori early lessons are focused on practical life - cleaning, fine motor skills, etc, no need for fancy materials! We will also be sending out a materials list a week in advance so you will have plenty of time to purchase anything you need.

Can you send me all the materials for the program?

INFANT PROGRAM (12-18 Months)

Monday - Hand Transfer

This will help young children develop palmer grasp or pincer grasp (depending on the size of the items being transferred - large objects for younger, gradually using smaller objects), as well as develop hand-eye coordination, left to right muscle memory, and a sense of order

Wednesday - Homemade Playdough
This activity will be focused on sensorial exploration and will help develop and strengthen hand muscles as the child mixes ingredients to form a dough and manipulates the playdough

We designed this program to be easy enough for anyone interested in Montessori to join.

We understand that you have other commitments, children, or caregiving responsibilities. You don't have time for 30+ hours/week of focused eduction for each child, as much as you might want to be able to do that!

All you need to join:

📌 2-3 hours/week

📌 an email address

📌 a child between the ages of 3 months and 3 years

Unfortunately we don't currently have a Casa program for children over 3, but we hope to have one in the near future!

Who it's NOT for:

🚫 It's not for anyone looking for a full day curriculum for their children

🚫 It's not for those who want to setup the perfect Montessori classroom in their home or those looking to buy a ton of Montessori 'toys'. This program uses mainly items around the home and focuses on practical life.

You can probably find almost all of our activities online BUT it's just going to be so much work to research, plan, and organize it all. I know as a parent, we have a never ending to-do list. That's why we made this program as simple as possible, we want parents to actually be able to do it, not just hope to do it someday.

Also, our curriculum and activities are created by a Montessori-certified teacher (and teacher of teachers at the Montessori Teachers College).  This isn't just someone passionate about Montessori or someone that's used it only in their own home, it's someone who's worked with hundreds of children and knows how to apply the lessons in many different scenarios.

Why would I pay for this stuff when I can probably find it online for free?
